During these sessions you will listen to a presenter who will share her/his own story as well as offer you an inside look into the career and what is necessary to be successful. Each session is 20 minutes. You will have the chance to meet with the presenters again at the end of the program between 4-5pm during our Networking Hour.


1:30-2:50

Session 1A – FASHION MAGAZINES

Presenter: Pamela Macklin, Former Fashion Director, Essence Magazine
Learn about the exciting career of a print or online fashion writer from Pamela Macklin who made a strong impact during her tenure as Fashion Director at Essence. Many successful people have been Fashion Editors and Fashion Contributors; and now the growing Digital Magazine business is offering new paths through the web. What do you need to know and how do you get started? What skills are necessary to become successful in this field? Pamela will share from her personal experiences and offer her insights.

Session 1B – THE WORLD OF FASHION STYLING

Presenter: Sarah Parlow, Fashion Stylist
What is a stylist? What are the different kinds of stylists? How do I get started? From Personal Shoppers to Wardrobe and Image Consultants, Sarah will share her experiences and path to become a successful fashion stylist. She will speak to the importance of learning about the tools used by a stylist and how a fluency in the history of fashion is so important.

Session 1C – THE BUSINESS SIDE OF FASHION: THE NUMBERS GAME

Presenter: Sindy Sagastume, VP of UCOF
Sindy will share her own journey and discuss how fashion is a trillion dollar business that requires not just creativity but needs people who understand numbers and how to use them to find opportunities and business solutions to make fashion brands profitable. Learn about the different opportunities on the business side of fashion and what skills you will need to be successful.

Session 2A – FASHION DESIGN

Presenter: Malan Breton, Creative Director and Founder of Malan Breton
Malan Breton® is a New York based womenswear, menswear, bridal, and accessories brand founded in 2005 by Malan Breton. Born in Taipei, Taiwan, Breton has been designing since the age of 11 and is known for his signature detailing, and fabrics. Malan Breton® is noticed as one of the top three hundred of all luxury brands in the world. Malan will share his journey with you and also what was important in his career and how he manages to remain successful.

Session 2B — THE WORLD OF ACCESSORIES: FASHION SUNGLASSES

Presenters: Coco and Breezy, Business Owners
Corianna and Brianna Dotson founded Coco andBreezy Eyewear in 2009 and have carefully nurtured their brand to become a viable brand in the world of eyewear. Twin sisters who each bring a unique attitude to the brand and skill set which compliments the other. They will share their journey with you and explain how they started and the strategy they developed to build a business that now has a global presence.

Session 2C – EVENT PLANNING

Presenter: Rebecca Johnson, Founder, Celebrevents
Rebecca Johnson is the President & CEO of Celebrevents, LLC, a NYC based event company. Celebrevents creates stellar events with a focus on healthy foods. Rebecca has discovered what makes Event Planning a successful career path and will stress the importance of providing a unique tailored experience that will proved a memorable event that will also be healthy, fun and a true reflection of her client. She will share her own journey and what was important to her and contributed to her success in a very competitive business.

Session 3A – THE JOURNEY OF A FASHION ENTREPRENEUR

Presenter: Jacqui Jenkins, Dean of LIM Graduate Center
Jacqui is a graduate of the Wharton School of Business and currently the Dean of the LIM Graduate School. Jacqui believes in the business of fashion and in particular the power of entrepreneurship. She mentors many of her graduate students and has a thorough understanding of what is takes to be a successful entrepreneur and how not everyone will succeed at this rewarding path. Jacqui will share what it takes to be an entrepreneur and how to measure success.

Session 3B – THE WORLD OF MODELING

Presenter: Sandi Bass, Bass International & UCOF Board Member
Sandi Bass studied Art Culture and Fashion Design at LA City College while knocking on door by door to pursue her dream in fashion. Sandi was discovered by Monsieur Hubert de Givenchy and taken to Paris, France as his muse. Sandi spent the next fifteen years as a top runway model living in Paris, Rome, and Tokyo working for the top fashion houses. Sandi is now working as Director of Runway at a top NY agency and traveling the world as a top international model scout. Sandi will share the need for great communication skills, and the importance of relationships and ethics in any business.

Session 3C – THE INTERSECTION OF FASHION AND INTERIOR DESIGN

Presenter: Everick Brown, Owner, EB Design
Everick “Rick” Bown is known as one of New York’s most up and coming interior designers. He has developed an impressive roster of interior design clients throughout the United States and abroad. His stylish studio and celebrated modern interior concepts illustrate his penchant for interior design and simple, elegant living. Everick is inspired by the global influences of all cultures. He has been acknowledged by the New York Times, Essence Magazine and Black Enterprise, to name a few. He has been featured on television including, TLC, The Fine Living Network and News 12 Westchester. Additionally, he was a finalist for HGTV’s Design Star Casting, season four. Most recently, Everick was commissioned with designing the Presidential Suite at the US Open.


4:00-5:00     NETWORKING HOUR

5:00             Event Ends


Each session will be 20 minutes with a 10-minute break to allow participants to move to the next session. If there are any breaks in participants’ schedules they will be directed to the designated “lounge” area till their next session. Guest will not be permitted to wander through the school and must remain in designated event areas. At the end of the program, light refreshments will be served in the lounge area for all participants and presenters to mingle, network and respond to questions.
