JOHANNESBURG – March 2013 realized the long awaited visit of United Colors of Fashion (UCOF) to South Africa. The annual charity trip, which lasted from March 6th – 13th, will be engraved in our minds and hearts forever.

The trip served as a dual-purpose visit, due to the coincidental merger of our Charity Care and Fashion Education programs, taking us to the humility of Soweto and the flamboyance of Joburg Fashion Week.

Our Achiever of The Year, Sade Solomon, and our President, Ciano Clerjuste took all the wonderful work UCOF has done in the last year and presented it to South Africa in the true sense of Fashion For Humanity. Sade visited South Africa for the first time, where she underwent a rigorous training program under the guidance of David Tlale, Shaldon Kopman (Naked Ape) and Jan Malan (Umzingeli Productions). She was introduced first hand to the workings of the South African fashion industry, working backstage at the shows of prima designers at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Joburg. She also learned how to produce and market a fashion show under the guidance of world-renowned show producer Jan Malan.

I knew that on this journey to South Africa, gratitude would be one quality I would have to take home with me. However, I didn’t expect that I would feel so grateful on the first day of my trip.
On day 1, I traveled from the airport to the studio of David Tlale who is renowned as the Marc Jacobs of South Africa. Upon arrival I was introduced to his amazing team of pattern-makers, seamstresses, tailors and designers.
In the spirit of UCOF I was put straight to work.

United Colors of Fashion Announces Its Annual Charity Trip to South Africa

New York, NY (March 2, 2013) – United Colors Of Fashion (UCOF), a one-of-a-kind Fashion philanthropic organization is on its way to South Africa from March 6-13th for its annual charity trip.

UCOF uses the annual charity trip to Soweto to bring clothes, shoes, school supplies and donations for the children they are helping at Mapetla Day Care. While monetary donations and supplies are important, it is equally important that UCOF team members along with multiple sponsors and volunteers spend quality time with all the children of Mapetla Day Care. The time spent show the children love and affection that they so richly deserve, ultimately offering them hope for a brighter future.

JOHANNESBURG – United Colors Of Fashion (UCOF) will depart this week for our much-anticipated journey to South Africa. It is a goal we have been working towards since 2012 and we are thrilled to finally realize this trip. UCOF has been working tirelessly to raise funds for the children we support through our Charity Care Program, in Soweto, Johannesburg. With the incessant support from our donors, board members and staff we have raised $3000 for the 45 children at Mapetla Day Care.

The UCOF team will hand over the funds we have raised this past year, along with clothing, school supplies, shoes and other necessities. The children are always in need of these items, so once again, we appeal to the generosity of our donors to make this trip even more special.

Any donations of clothing, school supplies and shoes for children aged 1-5 would be, not only a gesture if goodwill, but a concerted effort to make a difference to the lives of children who have never known the luxury of a normal standard of living.
