Starting off with a soft, electric beat and the perfect lilac runway, BCBG kept true to its high fashion and modern aesthetic with a show that did not disappoint. The first looks to hit the runway were soft, flowing kimono style dresses with color blocking in perfect peach and dusty blue hues. This new kind of color blocking was woven throughout the show and is a more subtle approach than seen in seasons past. A fur trend was also strung throughout the show, starting with statement accents at the beginning and later by incorporating fur on statement coats and even dresses. The show held true to BCBG’s style and approach to fashion. It displayed modern and high fashion pieces that are likely to instantly turn into tried and true classics.
This collection highlighted contrast in a variety of ways. This sort of juxtaposition was everywhere, whether it was in a fluttering earth-hued dress with a bark like texture paired with a chunky black mid-calf boot, or nude-toned color blocked cape with a fur collar over an airy black maxi dress. The earth tones and mod, muted color pallets stood out perfectly when they were paired with midnight blacks and stark whites. This contrast was even evident in the first and last looks of the collection; it started off with pieces that were airy and light in neutral colors and ended the show with earthy textures, sequins and sheer black pieces. There was a metamorphosis of style right on the runway.
Graphic pieces are always quite refreshing when put on light silks and soft satins. BCBG’s fall collection was defined by pieces that seemed to elongate and define the body with their draping. Tight, form fitting pieces were non-existent; gowns, dresses, and pants that fell like waterfalls were highlighted instead. This body conscious sort of look was accented by the fact that classic white long sleeve button-ups were used to layer under short sleeve dresses. This modern approach to a long loved classic just shows how innovative BCBG truly is. This collection, both beautiful and romantic in a new and unexpected way, left our ears ringing with the promise of a beautiful season ahead.
