Rebecca Minkoff Fall 2014 Collection Review

BY: Gabriela Herstik

An ode to polished punk and effortless New York style, Rebecca Minkoff’s Fall 2014 collection consisted of the easy high meets low style we all so desperately crave. By pairing pieces like leather blouses with accessories like knit beanies and new age gladiator sandals, it is clear that Minkoff has a penchant for creating looks that we’d all love to live in. High heel tasseled sneakers made an appearance, and when paired with sleek bomber style jackets, they looked more suited for the runway than the court. Mid-calf skimming dresses in airy fabrics and vibrant patterns were displayed perfectly under sheer long sleeves and dove gray coats. Drop waist pants paired with quilted fanny packs also upped the fashion ante in this collection, providing an interesting take on a 90’s favorite.

This collection is sexy in an understated way, accenting the woman underneath by draping her in clothing a lot like her: calm, cool and collected. There’s a certain kind of sex appeal to a sheer white button up when it’s paired with a leather skirt with a thigh baring slit. Sex appeal was prevalent throughout the collection which was obviously aimed at a younger demographic. All of the looks in this collection had the perfect “more is more” attitude, which helped to create an aesthetic that was both busy and young.

This collection got progressively more edgy as it went on; textures played a big role in creating a vibrant canvas for the eye. Furs, satins, spikes and even leather were all paired with gauzy and sheer fabrics that created the perfect downtown style. Sheer paneling in unexpected places, like the neck and throat, were refreshing after seasons of cleavage and side exposing cut outs. The effortless nature of this collection pairs well with a woman with a strong mind. This collection is for the confident woman who knows how to harness her strength through her clothes and knows that abundance, in every facet, is always in style.
