United Colors of Fashion, Inc. announces that South African rising TV star, Lunga Shabalala has been appointed as its ambassador in South Africa.
Mr. Shabalala has set himself apart from his peers with his zealous nature and a hardworking streak. In under a year, he moved from being a soccer and rugby coach in Durban to one of the most talked about and watched talents on the South African entertainment landscape.
Now a presenter of Selimathunzi the popular variety show on SABC1, Shabalala will use his influence to send the message of UCOF to youths in South Africa and be engaged in the activities of the association.
Mr. Shabalala´s value systems resonate with what UCOF is about. He loves life; he embraces worthy causes and through his involvement in TV and fashion as a model is in synch with our mission.

“I am honored to have been chosen as an ambassador of UCOF in South Africa. It has always been my wish to play my part in educating and helping where I can those who are infected and affected by this pandemic. Working with UCOF allows me to witness first hand the damage this disease is doing, but also gives me a chance to be part of a team that´s working towards a solution. I look forward to putting minds together with the office in New York and the Soweto Hospice, which is the main beneficiary,” said Mr. Shabalala.

UCOF Celebrates The Life of A Worldwide Humanitarian, Mrs. Bisila Bokoko

This is not a matter of networking. This is a matter of changing lives.

By JUAN E. TORRES

On Sunday, June 26, 2011 United Colors Of Fashion, Incorporated (UCOF) celebrated the Birthday of one of the most influential women of the world, Mrs. Bisila Bokoko.  The celebration took place at a chic restaurant in Chelsea, New York.

Mrs. Bokoko, whom is of African descent, was born and grew up in Spain.   She is the epitome of strong women worldwide.

I remember it like it was yesterday, the first time I met Mrs. Bokoko. I was working for an event, where she was listed as an ambassador and her charity was being represented. I never had a chance to meet her prior, and when she walked into the room, her presence drew in attention immediately- not only was she stunning in her evening gown, but glowed. She had a huge smile, which just made you want to approach her and say hi, and so I did. I mean come on now, my brother, Ciano Clerjuste, is a really good friend of hers, I had to take advantage of the opportunity. As a woman, her aura was similar to a queen as her subjects bow in respect only with Mrs. Bokoko´s presence hearts melts in her kindness. I was greeted with the Spanish traditional kiss to the left cheek, and then one to the right.

Leveraging Fashion for a Cause Veronika Rovegno is turning personal tragedy into a humanitarian tool.

A 30-year-old native of Tanzania, she grew up in Kenya, and now makes her home in New York. In 1999, her sister died of sickle cell anemia while awaiting medical help at an inadequate Tanzanian health care facility.

“She went to the hospital — she’d had loss of blood and needed a transfusion — and she never returned,” she said. “The doctor didn’t see her on time. He didn’t arrive until ten hours later.”

There exists in all of Tanzania only a single doctor trained to treat sickle cell anemia, and very little medicine.

Rovegno wants to change all that, and she’s come up with a stylish way to do it. Educated in the law, she’s also a fashionista who’s lived in Manhattan since 2001. Growing up, she’d leaf through American fashion magazines that her diplomat father brought home to her. She’d cut out ads for Gucci and Versace and pin them to her walls.
